Bacteria from over 100,000 years ago were recently discovered and resurrected after over 120,000 years. Can this be possible?
Many believe that the Earth is just 4,000 years old and that everything was created at that time. Having a degree in archaeology it’s hard for me to accept this biblical account of creation. I once lived with a fundamentalist who, when questioned about archaeological finds responded, “God is testing your faith.”
Why does faith need to be tested? Why is it that fundmentalists insist that the Bible is correct? I don’t understand. Did Adam and Eve’s children mate with each other? When Cain killed Abel, he left and went off to another society, no? How do we have black, white, indian, oriental? We were all descended for Adam and Eve? Is all of the Chinese history incorrect? How is it that indians existed on our continent at the same time of creation? Where there more than one set of chosen people?
Could it be that the Bible refers to just a specific group of people? God appeared to certain people of the Jewish heritage but not to others. I often wonder why I, as a Christian, pray to a God who has never revealed Himself to Christians. I often wonder. Is there an answer? Will the God of the Jews care about me when it’s all over?
As a Catholic, I learned that unless you were a Catholic, you would spend eternity in hell. Yet some Protestant groups claim that the Catholic church is the anti-Christ. They trashed me for my faith.
Does anyone know the truth? Meanwhile, these entities that lived 120,000 years ago and now are alive again, how do we justify their existance when many believe that the universe did not exist at this time?
Any thoughts are welcome. Keep it friendly please. I’ve lived too long and really don’t know what to think anymore.
A lot of harm and injury has been done in the name of God. More blood has been shed in His name than for any other singular reason in history that I can think of. The problem with religion is that it is maintained by man. The Bible, while a great tool, is still a book written by man. Now, I personally believe that it’s words were guided by God’s hands, but that does not mean that man is going to interpret it correctly. Hence the diversity of religions. People tend to look for only the words they want to hear and use them how they see fit.
The God of the Jews did appear to us. As Jesus. He came down, lived our life, felt our pain and then died for us. Being a recovering Catholic, I know the damage done by Catholics and other religions in His name. To be judged by a priest that expects to be called Father when God is the only Father we have besides our earthly one, has always been a thorn in my side. I come from a Jewish/Catholic background so I had an interesting upbringing. The God of the Jews IS our God therefore He will most definitely care for you when it is all over. At the end of the day, it is our day to day actions that will tell our story, not our weekly visits to church.
As far as the Earth just being 4000 years old, it does NOT say that ANYWHERE in the Bible. A single day in God’s life could be 1000 or 10000 or more in our life. While my faith in God no longer waivers, my faith in the portrayals of creation by man surely does. Like you, I know there is too much physical evidence that is not reflected in the Bible, but take that for what it is…man could only record what man was physically a part of. Therefore, he could not know what happened before he came into existence could he?
I just did a post on my blog that dicusses something similar, maybe that is why I was drawn back to yours today. Don’t lose heart my friend, just keep living, laughing, loving and being. If you live a good life, nothing will be lost.
